Senior Primary

Building on the skills and concepts taught in the Foundation Phase at Underberg School, our Senior Phase follows the CAPS curriculum supplemented with other activities.

Ensuring learners can identify and solve problems using critical and creative thinking, work effectively individually and collaboratively, and communicate well orally and in written work.

We endeavour to instil responsibility, self-discipline, good manners, and a strong work ethic in our learners.

Our academic programme includes English Home Language, Mathematics, Afrikaans/isiZulu (Second Language), Science, Social Sciences, Life Skills, Art, Physical Education, Computer Skills, Music, Robotics, and Coding. EMS and Technology are added in Grade 7.

We write international, external exams annually to ensure our standard is comparable with South African private schools, and internationally.

We believe that academic success comes with the ability to read with comprehension and to read for pleasure. We implement a structured reading programme using group novels to ensure our learners are exposed to as much literature as possible.

We have small classes which ensure effective teaching. Learners use computers regularly to learn vital computer skills, coding and robotics, and for research. Speech and Drama is incorporated into our programme. We alternate between a play and a Speech and Drama Festival.
As a school that embraces the beauty of nature around us, we offer learners many opportunities to participate in hikes and other interesting excursions. Introducing them to and educating them about important environmental and ecological topics.

In addition to our academic programme, we offer a wide range of sports for girls and boys, from cross country to swimming, and netball to rugby. Gymnastics and dancing are also offered over and above the school’s sports programme.

We encourage our learners to participate in physical, outdoor activities instead of virtual-based ones. This is to limit exposure to excessive screen time. We are also a phone-free school.

Our aim is to equip each learner with the skills for a successful future.
